Laboratory 3

Due Week 12

1. Purpose: to become familiar with routers

2. Equipment:

1 CISCO Router
1 PC with Terminal Emulator
1 console cable

3. Discussion:

4. Procedure:

a. Go to the Telecomm Lab and check the Cisco setup.

b. Make a list of the equipment and make a description of it and it's function.

c. Look up the users manual on the router. Connect a PC running a from a terminal emulator. The "enable" password is "password".

d. Use a screen capture to record the initial display. Explain the important entries. Remember to 80/20 rule.

e. Change the name of the router to your last name. Change the motd to something meaningful.

f. Save the running configuration to NVRAM.

g. Save the running configuration to the tftp server. Use the root as STUDENT\LASTNAME to save your file.

h. Connect the router to act as bridge between two networks. The router should automatically build a routing table between the LANs. Display this table.

i. What problems did you have? How did you overcome them?

j. What did you learn from this lab? Write this up in detail. What can you do now that you could not do before?
