Internetworking with Routers and Switches
Laboratory
4
Due
Week 15
1. Purpose: to become
familiar with:
2. Equipment:
1 Catalyst
Switch(model 1900 or 2900) 2 CISCO Routers (25xx series)
1 CISCO console cable
4 PCs with Terminal Emulation
2 Cisco router console cables
2 Cat 5 crossover cables or 2 hubs/switches with straight-thu cables
3. Discussion:
4. Procedure:
a. Connect
the PC with the rollover cable to the console port of a Catalyst Switch. Go to
hyperterm and log on in the enable mode. Determine the ip address of port 1.
Using Internet Explorer, type this address Determine the ip address of port 1.
Using Internet Explorer, type this address. Note you should be connected to the
switch. The switch should be running a web server. Note the port number.
Establish two VLANs, with two PCs in each VLAN. Develop a method to test the
VLAN.
b. Connect
the two routers via the crossover cable. This simulates a connection over the
internet. They may already be connected. In this case just verify the
connection. For extra credit, find the price of this cable and a source.
Include a screen capture of the source.
c. Connect
PC from the serial port to a router console port using the console cables. Turn
the routers on. Turn the routers and the PCs. Place PC in terminal emulator
mode (9600 bps, 8 bits, no parity, 2 stop bits). Establish contact with the
attached router. You must configure e0 and s0 for each router. The address are
open, as we will not be on the internet. Use the same subnet mask. The default
gateway is
d. Let
the routers run the Cisco Discovery Protocol(CDP). It is automatic. Research
the CDP. What does it produce? Verify this.
e. Verify
connectivity between PC Workstations.
f. Draw
the network diagram using VISIO.
g. Discuss
problems you had and how you attempted to solve them. What do you recommend to
improve the lab assignment?
h. What
problems did you have? How did you overcome them?
i. What did you learn from this lab? Write this up in detail. What can you do now that you could not do before?
